On the set of Indian Idol 12, Sawai Bhatt receives a ‘Paghadi’ from his father.

This weekend, the candidates on Sony Entertainment Television’s Indian Idol Season 12 will perform a Father’s Day special episode in which they will sing songs in honour of their fathers. The episode will be a tearjerker, with contestants and their fathers getting emotional as they discuss how having each other in their lives has been a continual source of strength and drive. Following Sawai Bhatt’s outstanding performance on the song “Baghban,” his father, who is visibly moved, does something startling for Sawai.

Sawai has always made it a point to wow his audience with his abilities. Sawai Bhat’s father takes a minute after his performance to commend his son. He becomes tremendously upset, but he is also proud to be his son’s father. “As a father, I never tried to understand Sawai,” claimed Sawai’s father, Ramesh Bhatt. I’ve never admired him for his talent since I’ve always assumed he’s just performing tunes. But today, seeing how well-known my son has become around the world makes me immensely proud! I’d like to present him with my ‘Paghadi’ in recognition of his dedication and hard work.”

“I have enormous respect for my father, and I don’t want the ‘Paghadi,’ but all of his blessings,” Sawai Bhatt expressed his feelings. I’m delighted because his smile and pride on his face make me happy. I’m grateful to everyone here for giving me this opportunity to show off my singing abilities. I shall always and forever strive to make my father proud.”
